1DD: how to positively impact with design
HOROZIC: “Through a combination of humility, vulnerability, and unbridled enthusiasm.”
"When I first started off my career, I definitely stepped into the arena with the mindset of “designer knows best, please step out of the way.” I laugh at that mindset now. Not because the designers don’t know best—we are still experts in giving form to a variety of human needs—but we cannot do it alone. Designing solutions with impact is not a solo act. I grew up in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and I’ve done design work in places like Kenya, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and Uganda—and what I’ve learned from all of those lovely, yet quite dysfunctional places is that together is the only way out of the messes we create. By lowering our guard to listen, by opening our hearts to relate, and by relentlessly pursuing the good even when we’re knocked down, we stand a chance of waking up to a better world. "
