1DD: how to positively impact with design
KRUKOW: “Human decision-making is largely determined by choice architecture, and choice architecture can be designed in a way that makes following ambitions easy.”
"Human beings all over the world share the same ambitions - ambitions of being kind and responsible to each other and the planet. However, when it comes to translating those ambitions into concrete actions on an everyday basis, we often fail to succeed!
It’s not that we don’t care; aligning each and every decision we make throughout the day with those ambitions simply requires more mental energy than nature has endowed us with.
So most of the time what actually ends up determining behavior is our immediate surroundings and their ability to work with or against basic human instincts. Human decision-making is largely determined by choice architecture, and choice architecture can be designed in a way that makes following ambitions easy. In my perspective, that is the most powerful way that design can create positive impact and contribute in facilitating a brighter future!"
